About Me

My name is Megan Drew. My best friend's name is Joyce. We enjoy long, heartfelt talks, strolls in the nearby park, and, a personal favorite of ours, people watching. She's one of those friends that makes you a better person just by being in their presence. I forgot to mention that Joyce is 92 years old. Despite our 73 year age gap, Joyce and I have a special bond that will last until the end of our days.
The biggest role model in my life is my grandma, Mary. Growing up, she taught me numerous life lessons and helped me to strengthen my relationship with God. Since her passing, I have been volunteering at a number of nursing homes, which is how I met Joyce, because there is so much to be learned from the elderly. Their stories, experiences, and advice usually go unheard because there is no one there to listen. Through my volunteer work, I have come to find that many of the residents struggle with depression due to isolation and feelings of desertion; however, that telling their stories helped them to find purpose in their lives and helped to alleviate their depression. This blog will explore the alternative treatment method of memoir therapy to combat depression in the elderly.
